Why choose us
The BRAVE (Background Rates of Adverse events for Vaccine Evaluation in Africa) project is generating real-world evidence and building infrastructure, expertise, and data systems to strengthen vaccine safety science in Africa. BRAVE is delivered collaboratively by the Global Vaccine Data Network (GVDN) and key institutions across Africa.
What we do
People trust vaccines when they know safety has been thoroughly evaluated
Vaccines save millions of lives every year by preventing serious infectious diseases.
Every vaccine undergoes extensive testing before approval, but, like all medicines, can cause side effects or adverse events for some people. Overall, the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. Vaccines protect individuals and communities, strengthen health systems, reduce healthcare costs, and prevent disease outbreaks that can disrupt society and economies.
Vaccines remain one of the most effective and cost-efficient public health interventions ever developed. Ensuring vaccine safety is fundamental to maintaining public confidence and protecting population health.
People trust vaccines when they know that safety has been thoroughly evaluated. However, in some African countries, vaccine safety surveillance has been inconsistent, impacted by missing data and underreporting, or has relied on data from outside Africa, where populations and health systems differ significantly.
BRAVE is working in Africa to close that gap.
