Building Sustainable Vaccine Safety Evaluation Systems

BRAVE is committed to the development of sustainable vaccine safety evaluation systems by strengthening surveillance infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries and integrating this infrastructure within existing national health systems.

The project establishes robust hospital- and community-based surveillance platforms that generate background rates of adverse events of special interest prior to vaccine introduction and support post-authorisation vaccine safety monitoring. By developing innovative and reproducible surveillance methodologies, including approaches to link hospital-based data with population denominators, BRAVE enables the comparison of observed adverse event rates following vaccine introduction with established background rates. These systems are designed to be flexible and scalable, allowing for rapid deployment during future outbreaks and supporting vaccine safety assessment across different diseases and vaccine platforms.
