1.      Introduction and Acceptance of Terms of Use

These BRAVE Project Website, Dashboard and Protocol Terms of Use (BRAVE Terms of Use), together with the GVDN Privacy Policy, set out your rights and responsibilities when you access and use the BRAVE Website, Dashboard(s) and Protocol(s), and what you can expect from us. In particular, it is important that you understand the limits of permitted use and your obligations not to misrepresent any Dashboard Information or Protocol(s).

By accessing the BRAVE Website and/or Dashboard(s) and/or Protocol(s) you:

  • acknowledge and accept these Terms of Use;
  • agree to comply with the obligations in these Terms of Use; and
  • agree that we may collect and use your Personal Information in the manner set out in the GVDN Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with these statements, you must not use the BRAVE Website, Dashboard(s), or Protocol(s).

2.      Changes to these Terms of Use

We may update these Terms of Use at any time, by updating them on the BRAVE Website. You agree to the Terms of Use that are on the BRAVE Website each time you access the BRAVE Website, Dashboard(s) and/or Protocol(s).

These Terms of Use were last updated on 30 January 2026.

3.      Definitions

Capitalised words used in these Terms of Use have the meanings below:

BRAVE means the Background Rates of Adverse events for Vaccine Evaluation in Africa project, conducted by GVDN.

BRAVE Website means https://thebraveproject.org/ and any successor website, and includes any functionality provided at these sites, including Dashboard(s), interactive visualisations, and any content made available at these sites, including Dashboard Information, Protocol(s), summaries of findings, interactive visualisations, educational materials, publications, and other project-related content.

Dashboard means the content and functionality of one or more interactive dashboards made available on the BRAVE Website at [TBC] which present summaries of BRAVE study data and related information, including dashboards relating to site capacity assessment, electronic health records (EHR), health and demographic surveillance systems (HDSS), and hospital-based surveillance, as updated from time to time.

Dashboard Information means the information, data, summaries and visualisations made available via the Dashboard(s).

GVDN is a multinational, investigator-led research network with primary interests in the area of vaccine safety and effectiveness.  More information is available at https://www.globalvaccinedatanetwork.org/.

GVDN Privacy Policy means the privacy policy at https://www.globalvaccinedatanetwork.org/aboutus/privacy-policy as may be updated from time to time.

Permitted Purpose has the meaning given in clause 5 of these Terms of Use;

Personal Information has the meaning given in the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ) (or replacement legislation) but generally means information about an identifiable individual;

Protocol(s) means one or more of the protocols used to generate the Dashboard Information; and

‘we’, ‘our’, and ‘us’ means Auckland UniServices Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau, New Zealand.

4.      BRAVE Project

BRAVE is a collaborative research project delivered by Global Vaccine Data Network™ (GVDN®) and partner institutions across Africa. BRAVE aims to generate real-world evidence and build infrastructure, expertise, and data systems to strengthen vaccine safety science, with a particular focus on African populations and health systems and locally led research capacity. The BRAVE Website seeks to provide clear, accessible information about BRAVE’s research approach, its partner and research sites, news updates, project milestones, and project results, including Dashboard(s) that may be periodically updated.

The intended audience includes:

  • Public health regulators and decision‑makers
  • Researchers and technical collaborators
  • Global health organisations
  • Media and science communicators
  • Communities and the broader public, especially in Africa

We provide the Dashboard(s) and Dashboard Information for informational purposes only. Although our aim is to increase knowledge on vaccine safety and effectiveness, we cannot guarantee that the information is suitable for any particular purpose or that it is error-free. You can find out more about the Protocol(s) and research methodologies used to generate the Dashboard Information at [TBC].

No person (including clinicians) should rely on the Dashboard Information in isolation for the purposes of making healthcare related decisions. Any use of the Dashboard Information on the BRAVE Website by a clinician should be undertaken, taking into account the limitations of the Dashboard Information, and in conjunction with other appropriate scientific and clinical information and data, professional judgement and applicable clinical guidelines.

5.      Use of Dashboard Information and Protocol(s)

You may use the Dashboard, Dashboard Information, Protocol(s) and other information and content made available on the BRAVE Website only for academic research, science communication, public health, public policy and other non-commercial purposes (Permitted Purpose).

6.      Publications

As part of the Permitted Purpose, you may include extracts and summaries of Dashboard Information and Protocol(s) in reports and publications.

Where you use any Dashboard Information or Protocol(s) for further research, you must ensure that any such research and any conclusions you draw reflect accepted scientific methodologies and other principles of responsible research conduct.

Where you publish any extract or summary of any Dashboard Information or Protocol(s), you must ensure that the extract or summary is:

  • a fair and accurate representation of the information from which it has been extracted or on which it has been based;
  • not likely to mislead or deceive any person; and
  • stated to be an extract or summary only.

Any report or publication that includes information extracted or derived from Dashboard Information or Protocol(s) must include the following acknowledgement: “This research was based on data sourced from: BRAVE Project, Global Vaccine Data Network™. Name of dashboard. (Internet). Auckland: Global Vaccine Data Network™; 2022 [updated YYYY month; cited YYYY month DD]. Available from: URL. This work was supported, in whole, by funding from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI)”.

7.      Conditions of Use

As a user of the BRAVE Website you must:

  • not use the Dashboard Information, Protocol(s), or any other information on the BRAVE Website for any purpose other than the Permitted Purpose, except in accordance with separate written agreement between you and us;
  • present any reports or publications of Dashboard Information, the Protocol(s), or information derived from that information in accordance with clause 6 of these Terms of Use;
  • not resupply or otherwise commercialise the BRAVE Website;
  • not copy, issue, perform, play, show, communicate, adapt, distribute, use, import or keep for any of the foregoing, any content of the BRAVE Website, including any Dashboard, Dashboard Information, or Protocol(s), except as is fair and reasonable to exercise your rights under these Terms of Use;
  • not copy, issue, perform, play, show, communicate, adapt, distribute, use, import or keep for any of the foregoing, any other content of the BRAVE Website except in accordance with applicable copyright laws;
  • not include any link to the BRAVE Website on any other website except with our prior written consent;
  • not attempt to identify any individual whose Personal Information may have been used to inform any Dashboard Information;
  • not access any part of the BRAVE Website via any method other than through standard web browsers, and not use scraping, spiders, or any other automated data extraction or monitoring process; and
  • not hijack or introduce viruses or do anything else designed to interfere with the BRAVE Website or any connected systems, or the ability of any permitted user to use them for their intended purposes, nor attempt to do any such act.

8.      Other Content

On occasion, BRAVE partners may publish content (including blogs or similar articles) on the BRAVE Website. The views expressed in such content are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of GVDN, Auckland UniServices Limited, the University of Auckland or any of our partners.

9.      Exclusions of Liability

Neither we nor our partners accept any liability or legal obligation for:

  • your reliance on, or use or misuse of any Dashboard Information, Protocol(s) or other part of the BRAVE Website;
  • your inability to access any part of the BRAVE Website, or earlier versions of these; or
  • any third party links or tools which you access through the BRAVE Website.

Where we are held to have liability to you, and we are legally able to limit our liability, our maximum liability to you will be limited to NZD100.

10.    Rights of Access

We may grant access to the Dashboard(s) on a temporary basis. We aim to update the Dashboards periodically, which means that the Dashboard(s) may change at any time.

We aim to provide high availability of the Dashboard(s), but availability cannot be guaranteed. We are not responsible for any loss of information due to network or system outages, file corruption, accidental deletion, incompatibilities, or any other reasons.

We may terminate your access at any time if we consider that you have breached these Terms of Use or have otherwise misused the Dashboard Information or any other content of the GVDN Website.

11.    Indemnity

You indemnify us against all loss, damage, claims, costs, or expenses, including actual attorney fees, resulting from or incurred by us in connection with your breach of these Terms of Use.

12.    Fees

There are no fees for using the Dashboard Information or Protocol(s) for academic research and other non-commercial purposes. If you wish to use the Dashboard Information or Protocol(s) for commercial purposes, please contact us at [email protected] for the applicable licence fees and terms.

13.    Ownership of Content and Trade Marks

We own all rights, including intellectual property rights, in the content of the BRAVE Website, including the Dashboard(s), Dashboard Information and Protocol(s).

Global Vaccine Data Network is a trade mark of Auckland UniServices Limited. GVDN and GVDN device logos are New Zealand-registered trade marks of Auckland UniServices Limited. Other than as set out in clause 6 of these Terms of Use, nothing in these Terms of Use entitles you to use our names, trade marks or logos, or those of the University of Auckland, Waipapa Taumata Rau, New Zealand or any GVDN member or BRAVE partner, except with the relevant party’s consent.

14.    Privacy

Your privacy is very important. We will use your information only as described in our Privacy Policy. You have the right to request confirmation of, access to, and correction of, Personal Information that we hold about you. See our Privacy Policy for more information.

15.    General

These Terms of Use are governed by New Zealand law. If any term cannot be enforced under New Zealand law, it is to be read as if modified to the extent needed to become enforceable. No waiver of any term by us is effective unless in writing and signed by us.
