BRAVE supports vaccine safety through ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of adverse events occurring before the roll-out of vaccines for diseases such as Lassa fever and mpox. But our work and vision goes further. The infrastructure, expertise, and data systems we’re building will strengthen safety monitoring for vaccines against many diseases, creating a sustainable surveillance model for Africa and other regions.

Background rates refer to how often a health condition or medical event occurs naturally in a population over time, before any new intervention like a vaccine is introduced.
Building Sustainable Vaccine Safety Evaluation Systems
BRAVE is committed to the development of sustainable vaccine safety evaluation systems by strengthening surveillance infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries and integrating this infrastructure within existing national health systems.
Strengthening Local Leadership
BRAVE will work closely with host-country institutions and governments to build and retain expertise in vaccine safety surveillance, data collection, and analysis.
